The force of 5008 incorporates India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) headed by the Director General of Police (DGP) and assisted by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Commandant IRBn, five Superintendent of Police (SP) and 17 Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP).  The force was formed in 1858 for protection of Penal Settlements in the Andaman’s and reconstituted in 1867.  An organized form of Policing was established in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in August, 1875 with the extension of Indian Police Act of 1861 to the Islands.
